Librarian/Teaching Faculty Instructional Interactions
The Sullivan University Library collaborates with faculty to support student education in all aspects of the library and its use. As part of our mission, librarians develop customized, course-integrated learning experiences. These may take the form of synchronous and asynchronous presentations, tutorials, online learning modules, videos, research guides, or a combination of these teaching formats. Topics of instruction are guided by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) Framework for Information Literacy, individual course learning objectives, and use of library collections and resources.
In order to accommodate the greatest number of requests, we have created some guidelines for faculty to follow when arranging library services.
- Please allow at least a week's notice for classroom instruction and tours.
- If requesting the creation of a custom guide, the creation of video tutorials, or other more complex interactions with a class, additional advanced notice is required. For such requests, please consider contacting the library a quarter prior to teaching the class.
- All instructors should be present and engaged during a librarian class visit.
- For the most expedient planning process, make requests using the service request form located on this guide.
- A librarian will work with you to help determine the best format to achieve your learning objectives.
- Prior to the class visit, provide students with a relevant assignment. Consider the timing of the library visit with your research assignment/database exercise, etc.
- We recommend limiting the goals for a library instruction session to 1-3 objectives.
- If a resource already exists that meets the goal of the request (for example, the library’s APA LibGuide), the librarian may direct faculty to use this existing resource.
