Sustainability is a broad topic that applies to a wide variety of disciplines ranging from economics, building design, the arts, energy resources, and much more. It encompasses much more than the simple recycling process. The World Commission in Environment and Development has a clear definition of the subject:  "Sustainability is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
